Between 2009 and 2012 the KE Virtual Research Environments Working Group initiated a series of thematic workshops, bringing together experts around issues such as:
- Increased understanding and implementation of VRE technologies in scientific practice
- Greater uptake of VREs among researchers, especially in transnational collaboration
- Better reuse and development of tools, especially interdisciplinary
- A strategy for the future development of funding programmes
- Informing the EU Commission on the importance of VREs to the European research area.
